Exchange Traded Funds
By owning an ETF, you get the diversification of an index fund and the ability to sell short, buy on margin and purchase as little as one share. Another advantage is that the expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund. When buying and selling ETFs, you have to pay the same commission to your broker that you'd pay on any regular order.

Closed-End Funds
A closed-end fund is a publicly traded investment company that invests in a variety of securities, such as stocks and bonds. The fund raises capital primarily through an initial public offering . CEF shares and the proceeds are invested according to the fund's objectives. "Closed" refers to the fact that, once the capital is raised, there are typically no more shares available from the fund sponsor & the issuance of new shares is closed.

Certificates of Deposit
