What about RIMM? I like their strategy with the Playbook and think they are undervalued still, even though they are quite a bit off their low. Nice volatility. Anyone trade them here?

Related News:Technology · U.S. .Dish, NCR Fight for Rights to Blockbuster Brand in Movie-Rental Kiosks

By Alex Sherman - May 13, 2011 3:22 PM MT

inShare.0More

Business ExchangeBuzz up!DiggPrint Email .Dish Network Corp. (DISH), the U.S. satellite-TV provider that acquired Blockbuster Inc. (BLOAQ) last month, told NCR Corp. (NCR) that its contract to license the Blockbuster name on movie-rental kiosks is invalid.

Dish rejected the contract as part of Blockbuster’s court- ordered bankruptcy proceedings and sent NCR a termination letter, expressing its intent on ending the pact, NCR spokesman Jeff Dudash said. NCR disagrees with Dish’s conclusion that the contract is void, and plans to continue to brand its movie kiosks with the Blockbuster Express name, Dudash said.

“There will be legal proceedings to address this that will come up at the end of the month,†Dudash said. No lawsuits have been filed yet by either company.

NCR builds kiosks, often placed in grocery and convenience stores, that allow customers to rent and drop off movies. The company pays Blockbuster for the use of its brand and collects all revenue from rentals. NCR says the Blockbuster Express name, design and related trademarks are held by a trust that wasn’t part of Blockbuster’s bankruptcy filing. Duluth, Georgia-based NCR has branded more than 9,000 kiosks with the Blockbuster name, Dudash said.

If Dish successfully voids the contract, the Englewood, Colorado-based company will decide whether it wants to own the kiosk business, renegotiate deal terms with NCR or find another company that makes kiosks to license the name.

“Blockbuster continues to evaluate the kiosk-rental business and the variety of ways we provide access to our expansive inventory of family entertainment,†Marc Lumpkin, a Dish spokesman, said in an e-mail.

Uniting the Blockbuster brand under the Dish umbrella isn’t a priority for NCR, according to Dudash, who said NCR has become comfortable licensing the name.

“It’s something we’ve been doing for several years,†said Dudash. “The business falls in line with our strategic priorities to use our expertise in self-service technologies to deliver entertainment to consumers.â€

Dish completed its $320 million acquisition of Blockbuster on April 26. Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy in September with 5,600 stores, including 3,300 in the U.S.

Dish fell 39 cents, or 1.3 percent, to $28.81 at 4 p.m. New York time on the Nasdaq Stock Market. NCR lost 25 cents to $19.55 in New York Stock Exchange composite trading.

Now up almost 60% now.  Probably a pure casino gamble right now.

This is a good time to play the pass line. (@#$%s term). Having not worked this year,I need to be careful with my remaining chips. LOL Unlike ASM, I decided to retire at 58. 59.5 now and about to take my first IRA distribution this week.

On the local news last night it was reported that Rite Aid (rad) was opening 5 new stores in Cambria county Pa. There are currently 9 stores in the county which is mostly rural with most of the population in the city of Johnstown and a few boroughs so they are not targeting a new market. It looks like they are expanding I doubt that this is the only area they are expanding in.

Oct same store sales rose 5.1%. After reaching a 10yr high in sp this June the price fell to a 52 week low last month after beating earning est's in Sept..

Rite Aid (NYSE:RAD) last issued its quarterly earnings data on Thursday, September 18th. The company reported $0.13 EPS for the quarter, beating the Thomson Reuters consensus estimate of $0.06 by $0.07. The company had revenue of $6.50 billion for the quarter. During the same quarter in the prior year, the company posted $0.03 earnings per share. The company’s quarterly revenue was up 3.9% on a year-over-year basis. On average, analysts predict that Rite Aid will post $0.28 earnings per share for the current fiscal year.

This may turn out to get interesting in the near future. Any thoughts?

Followed RAD 5-10 years ago,was a penny stock in 1-3 buck range,,expanded too quickly and made a lot of bad deals and took on way too much debt, was on BK watch and still is imo..balance sheet looks better than then, just looked at it,,but longterm debt is about 9 bil and cash on hand is 185 mil..eps and income improved lately, but they can't sustain that debt, when it comes due, might not get refinancing of it..so imo it's still a BK candidate..be careful...Just a first take on it,i haven't delved into it much, they may have refinanced debt already..but still too much imo..

HMMMMMM!             Agreed the bal sheet doesn't look good.     And we don't know the total number of stores they plan on building and if they took on more debt to build these new stores.    5 seems like a lot of newbies for this area with the steel and mining industries being local history.  Although this area is known for its "old money" locked away for years in the local banks.

All -

I am reorganizing a bit.  Please post anything pertaining to specific companies within the forums I already have created for you.  If a folder/forum doesn't exist tell me here.  I am also looking for help organizing things.  If any of the existing moderators wants training and the ability to create subforums when I am not able to, I am looking for assistance in that area.

For those searching for the stock threads that used to exist here: I am moving anything not recent into the forum archive.  We are large enough now that I need to occasionally compress the old posts/forums to speed up the website and save server space.  Thanks for your patience!

And thanks to all the moderators who help me keep this place in order every year!

Created several new forums.  I am playing around with the idea of throwing every single stock thread into a single forum.  If I go that route you would basically create a yearly thread for a given stock.  Example: ZNGA - you would create a ZNGA 2015 stock thread in the stock forum.  Then each year I would move those threads to the appropriate archive folder.  I realize several of you don't necessarily like separate subforums for each stock.  I will find a way to make things simpler - just taking a little time.  Thanks!

Rick
